Housing Rental Sector Strategy: Discussion
11:00 am
Mr. David Silke:
Deputy Casey asked about the de-designation rent pressure zones. This is set out in the legislation. The Housing Agency has the lead role in looking at it when analysing the rental market. If an area had been designated and we feel the rents had stabilised and there is no further requirement for a rent pressure zone designation in that area, then the agency - in consultation with the Residential Tenancies Board and the Housing Authority - can make a recommendation to the Minister. In doing so, we must perform an analysis of the rental market and the general housing market to outline an argument for why we feel there is no longer a requirement for a rent pressure zone in that area.
