There has been a vacancy for quite some time in the Supreme Court that the Chief Justice did not recommend be filled because with the new Court of Appeal, a great deal of the work that would normally go to the Supreme Court, which had backed up, is now taken in the Court of Appeal.

The President, Mr. Justice Kelly, has divided it up into sections and it is very efficient. Mr. Justice Charleton is a serving member of the Supreme Court, and he has determined that he feels he will be able to deal with the central element of this tribunal inside nine months, and if that is the case he would then be free to return to the Supreme Court. We cannot put a definite timeline on it because of the possibility of court actions.
