EU State Aid Investigations into Tax Rulings (resumed)

4:00 pm

Mr. Mark Redmond:

My apologies. It is to the extent that we can control that. We are probably one of the most open economies in the world and as I said earlier, there is a lot going on that we do not control but what is within our control is the way we set the rules and regulations by which we operate. One of the key pillars of that is the body that taxes taxpayers in this country and that body has to operate independently, without fear or favour and with certainty. That has been one of the key pieces that has earned Ireland an enviable reputation as a certain place within our control in which to invest. That is why it is right for the Irish Government to defend that.
