Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach

Central Bank (Variable Rate Mortgages) Bill 2016: Central Bank of Ireland

9:30 am

Mr. Ed Sibley:

It is clear what we sought in terms of legislative change. What we have is legislation that we are working with now. At this time, there are risks but we have not identified specific issues where there are problems or concerns associated with it. We are working with what we have and trying to make it work as best we can. If it transpires that the risks to which the Deputy refers start crystallising, there will be a role for either the Central Bank or someone else to try to step in and address the issues that arise. We are trying to work to our best of abilities with what we find.
