I am a perfect example of that. I grew up in Dublin 4 and we were within 100 yards of a school but it was too posh for us so we were sent out to the Christian Brothers three miles away. There must have been ten schools that were nearer. Sandymount was one of those. It was easy because it was a very modest distance on a straight bus lane. We used to cycle. In a rural area, I imagine that one would find the pattern is not quite as choice free.
