There are two aspects here. There are the formal schemes that give rise to most of the payments which are set out here. There is a whole variety of reasons why we make termination payments. There is a scheme in respect of secretarial assistance, of which members of the House would be aware. Where people have worked for a certain number of years for a Deputy or Senator who retires or loses his or her seat, there are payments that recognise the service.
