HSE Report on Foster Home in Waterford Community Care Area: Discussion

There is another cost in terms of the huge amount of officials' time that has been spent on this. It would be far better for the efforts of the HSE to be directed more towards what its function should be, which is looking after people's health in the broadest sense of that word. It is a great pity.

Before concluding, I take this opportunity, particularly as I am not seeking re-election, to thank the Chairman for his chairmanship over these past years. It has been an honour to serve on this committee. To describe any issues that come up here as high points would be incorrect because we are usually looking at the dirty linen of how things are done in this country. However, it was a particular honour for me, because of my close connections with the organisation in question, to be here when representatives of the Central Remedial Clinic came before the committee.

I was in the rather invidious situation of having to tell somebody who appointed me to a job that he should give back some of the money he got. I thank the Chairman.
