I have not questioned what they have said, at all, in our discussions today but I do have an appointment to meet with them at a later point.

What I was about to say was that the alternative explanation to this not being a mistake is that, somehow or other, it was believed that it could be pretended that an apology was given in the presence of the two people who have written that letter and somehow it would not be noticed. I do not think it is a credible theory of someone setting out to mislead.
