Public Accounts Committee

National Asset Management Agency: Financial Statements 2014 (Resumed)

10:00 am

Mr. Brendan McDonagh:

I assure the committee that the whole issue of new buildings is subject to much stronger and tighter controls in terms of building regulations, something I strongly welcome. Every day we deal with difficult problems and historical legacy issues that we inherited. Between ghost estates, fire issues and other issues involving houses and apartment blocks, our job has been to fix and resolve them. Any new buildings will be built to appropriate regulations. Clearly, in terms of any prospects for people who have a poor track record - I will not be more specific than that - and where we have known of issues, I assure the committee that the track record would certainly not favour such people in winning any work.
