Special Protection Areas Designation: Irish Farmers with Designated Land

That is very unusual if that were so. I have seen hundreds of these but they always say that any compensation payable was only for a curtailment of current practice. For example, 80% of Connemara is designated so I have seen many hundreds of these but not for anything for which planning permission is required or for which a grant is payable. It is the State's prerogative to refuse a grant. For example, many places in the country will not get a grant for scenic reasons. I ask the members of the delegation to provide the committee with a copy of where they said that they would compensate farmers for a potential refusal of planning permission. I would be very interested because it would be unusual but if it is there, then we will follow it up.
