IFI was involved with University College Cork in a study of predation by seals. The general conclusion were that in rivers where there is a healthy population, seal predation is not of great concern. It is where stocks are small that there is a problem. One of the study areas was the River Slaney, where there are valuable multi-sea-winter salmon - that is, spring fish - coming in.
