Committee of Inquiry into the Banking Crisis
Nexus Phase
Mr. Brian Cowen:
Well, I mean, there's things ... You have to act in good faith, Deputy. If you decide to take a programme and it is made clear to you that taking the programme involves not proceeding in that way, well then you've got to deal with that.
The distinction being made by Deputy Murphy, which is a distinction that's being suggested by the Central Bank Governor, if that possibility in the EU is still there I'm sure this Government would be exploiting it to the full. It's not ... and in fact in fairness, you know, when the incoming, when the present Government came into office and had ideas on that front, you know, they went and discussed that in the corridors that ... the relevant corridors and they made the decision that it was, you know, a valid decision from their point of view, that it wouldn't be in our interest to proceed along those lines at this time.
