It is precisely in the context of an awareness that there are talks going on behind the scenes on the requirement to have the judgment in writing that we moved the amendment.

The Law Reform Commission, LRC, also recommended this. As it is under way, it would be good to have it included. Even though it is contained in the section on limiting sentences, it refers to all cases where any period of detention applies. Perhaps the best approach would be to insert an extra line at the end of the Minister’s amendment, so we will reserve the right to do so on Report Stage. However, I stand over my other points and will press them on Report Stage.
