Committee of Inquiry into the Banking Crisis

Nexus Phase

Professor Patrick Honohan:

Yes, and I think this is one of the advantages of having an independent regulator because as a regulator, we, the Central Bank, don't care whether the companies stay or go and if we put on a regulation which we think is necessary to keep them safe and if that means that a firm says, ''I'm outta here, it's just too costly for me to do business'', if that is necessary to keep them safe, that's all right. So I think that's a great advantage of the independence.
