Committee of Inquiry into the Banking Crisis

Nexus Phase

Mr. William Beausang:

Absolutely, but, I mean, that's ... all that information, or a lot of it, is in the public domain by virtue of the publication by the public accounts committee of the detailed reports and minutes of the DSG meeting that were being fed into the Department and into ... up to the Minister and to Government in particular instances. So the work of the DSG over that period where it was formally operating is very transparent in that respect and what it was, was a conduit for information from Dame Street to Merrion Street as I set out in my overview statement. We didn't have a role in managing the crisis but our role was to ensure that the principals, people at top level, had the information they required to assess and to take whatever further steps they thought were necessary to deal with the evolving difficulties.
