Ms Niamh O'Donoghue:

We are certainly confident that it is working accurately and to best industry standards. This is a proportion of registrations that have actually happened, and obviously those 62 cases were very serious cases of identity fraud. I think in one specific case there were up to ten identities being used by one person. We can see on an ongoing basis the role it is playing. The Deputy should bear in mind that when something arises it has to be investigated and we then have to conclude. At this stage in a process, when we have really only started to seriously roll out the card in the last 18 months, to have 62 instances in which we are very confident of a very solid case is pretty good going, bearing in mind that, in our view, the vast majority of people are getting the payments that they are entitled to and are not defrauding the system.
