Committee of Inquiry into the Banking Crisis

Nexus Phase

Mr. John Hurley:

My interactions with the Central Bank were primarily through the meetings of the ... of the European Central Bank. There would be meetings, formal meetings in Frankfurt. There would be informal meetings and you would have teleconferences. And during all of that period, there would've been frequent contact with the president and the executive board in the context of those meetings. Teleconferences became more frequent in the middle of the crisis, particularly at the ... towards the end September, that particular period, 2008, because all governors were in their capitals and Europe was in serious difficulty. And they needed to be at home as well as discussing together and the main mechanism for doing that was teleconferencing at the time. So that would have been the structure of contact.
