Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection

Family Income Supplement: Department of Social Protection

1:00 pm

Ms Catherine Kellaghan:

No. We made the point earlier about the stability of the FIS payment. Once we are satisfied that they qualify, when they make the claim for FIS, that they are working at least 38 hours per fortnight and as long as they remain employed their FIS will remain in payment for 52 weeks. When the renewal comes up we will see if they continue to qualify. However, if they are working 38 hours a week on average, they will generally qualify. We offer a client-centred way of seeing if they qualify.
