Committee of Inquiry into the Banking Crisis
Nexus Phase
Mr. Brian Goggin:
Well, I think Bank of Ireland, you know, had quite a comprehensive remuneration configuration and governance process in place. Risk was considered. We had a highly sophisticated Basel II risk calibrated process. You know, determining the quality of a loan book went through a rigorous process. And, to be quite frank with you nobody saw, even in 2007, even in 2008, what was coming down the tracks. So I think, I think one of the lessons to learn from what Ireland has experienced and banking systems generally around the world, there needs to be a better link on a forward looking basis between remuneration and risk.
