Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform
Overview of the Banking Sector in Ireland: Allied Irish Banks
2:00 pm
Mr. Brendan O'Connor:
I do not have a breakdown to hand of the figures the Central Bank holds for lending, but we have financed between 1,200 and 1,500 residential units and quite a few more are in the pipeline. It is not just about senior debt lending for property or equity because there is also the issue of planning permission. It is not something one can kick-start particularly quickly as one has to obtain planning permission first. It is often modified planning permission because a development that may have been envisaged four or five years ago is not the one that would sell today.
