Committee of Inquiry into the Banking Crisis
Context Phase
Mr. David McWilliams:
That is a very interesting question. It was very strange for me, because having been ignored for seven years, suddenly your man was in our kitchen. That was a very strange feeling. I have always said that I felt incredibly sorry for Brian Lenihan the individual, because I felt that here was a good man in the middle of an enormous financial storm, having been put into the job in recent months. He was really trying to get on top of things and he was really open. That was the interesting thing. He never closed himself off. He was always saying, "That could work, that might work". How did I feel? I felt that if something was not done in order for him to appraise himself of the facts, we would have a monumental crisis.
