Committee of Inquiry into the Banking Crisis
Context Phase
Mr. David McWilliams:
Not at all. There is no shred of economic, financial or monetary persuasive evidence to suggest that. We are a country that trades overwhelmingly with the English-speaking world, with America, Britain and Canada, where our kids go. Where do Irish kids go when they look for work? I do not see them rocking up to Bordeaux. They go to the English-speaking world. There is no scintilla of economic evidence that suggests anything other than a prejudice. EMU is a continental system; we are an Atlantic race and an Atlantic economy. It makes no sense and it has been disastrous for this country.
