Committee of Inquiry into the Banking Crisis
Context Phase
John Paul Phelan (Carlow-Kilkenny, Fine Gael) | Oireachtas source
I will bring Mr. McWilliams forward now to the very early part of September 2008. In a radio interview on RTE's "Saturday View", he stated that a crisis was imminent in the Irish banking system and that at least one Irish bank would be closed before Christmas. He said in his 2009 book, Follow the Money, that he received a number of telephone calls from bankers in the wake of that interview who accused him of causing panic. Will he indicate how many calls he received and what was said during those conversations?
