Professor John FitzGerald:

On the basis of the information I have today, the odds were that there was going to be a financial collapse in Ireland no matter what. It might have happened a bit later, which could have been worse; it could have been an even bigger bubble. I cannot say for certain as I am not infallible, but the odds were very strong that there was going to be a big problem.
