Committee of Inquiry into the Banking Crisis

Context Phase

Professor John FitzGerald:

We felt that we were fairly reported. One cannot say it was front page headlines in The Irish Timesand the Irish Independent. As is its style, The Irish Timeseditorial did not have the sequentials to at Christmas. The reporting was out in the open. It was not that our reports were a secret. Over the decades in the institute we felt we had a duty to communicate our results to the wider public. We do not conduct reports for the Department of Finance, we do them for the people of Ireland. The press conferences are very important and the press has been extremely helpful. Some of them, great journalists such as Brendan Keenan and Paul Tansey, would always explain better what one was trying to say. The reporting was very good.
