Firearms Licences: (Resumed) Discussion

10:00 am

Mr. Mark Dennehy:

I wish to re-emphasise that point. Under Article 6 of the EU Directive 91/477, that has been out since 1991 and is part of our law, any automatic firearm comes under the heading of category A in the EU and cannot be licensed to any civilian. One can only possess them with specific permission from Government. That means Enda Kenny would have to write a note saying one could have one. The directive states that all member states should prohibit people from having such firearms and, therefore, this is not an issue in Ireland.
