In his report, Mr. Nyberg writes about how this funding gap emerges. It opens up between the loans and deposits of all the covered banks growing from €26 billion in 2002 to €129 billion in 2008. To what extent was this facilitated by changes in the international financial conditions? Was it largely due to the aggressive growth strategies of the Irish banks?
