Ms Brady referred to Article 7 of the UN convention. Apart from issues pertaining to registration after birth and the right to a name and nationality, that article also defines a child's right to know and be cared for by his or her parents. The preparatory documents from the convention indicate that "parents" mean a mother and father in the first instance, and the biological parents at that. How is Ms Brady's submission consistent with that understanding of the rights of the child?
