Capturing Full Value of Genealogical Heritage: Discussion (Resumed)

4:55 pm

Mr. Brad Argent:

I wanted to make a quick reference to Deputy Murphy's point about headstones. I am a big fan of cemeteries. I spend way too much time in them. I am just getting accustomed to the fact that I will be spending eternity there. We have recently acquired a business called findagrave.com, and we are enabling people to find their own headstone and then transcribe those monumental inscriptions, preserve them, take photographs of them and share them around the world. That kind of community sourced project is very cost effective and it makes it so much easier for us to provide access to that kind of material around the world. That is another of these doorways into ancestral tourism. A person sees that headstone and then wants to go to the graveyard and pay his or her respects.
