Public Accounts Committee

Section 38 - Agencies Remuneration

12:40 pm

Mr. Paul Kiely:

They would like to be in it. I wrote to the HSE in relation to treating all staff in a similar way. It was at the time of the early retirement and voluntary redundancy schemes at the end of 2010. I thought that, in the interest of equity for the staff, all of them could have been treated the same and those schemes could have been opened up to them. One of the ways of doing that would be to freeze the pension they were already in and allow them to accrue benefits under the VHSS going forward. That would have been of great benefit, if one likes, to the financing of the deficit in the private pension fund as well.
