Heads of the Gambling Control Bill 2013: Discussion

10:35 am

Mr. Barry Galvin:

I apologise. I timed my presentation and thought it was five minutes in duration but it is taking longer. Let me make five points. The definition of an amusement machine should include crane-type machines. It is strongly suggested that gaming machines should be prohibited in bookmakers. That has been proposed in the new Act, and it is strongly opposed. The LGAI opposes the proposed promotion regime because there should be no possibility of direct contact. However, the fund to assist persons who have suffered from addiction is welcome.

In view of the time it will take for the Bill to go through and because of the huge number of illegal gaming machines in place we believe an interim authority should be put in place almost immediately for the benefit of the taxpayer and the industry.
