Let us take County Kerry as an example. There are 416 people in the county who are moving into self-employment and who are in receipt of the back to work allowance. This is very important in the context of generating small businesses. Some 924 people in County Kerry are on back to education allowances which are important in helping them to find a good job. There are others in receipt of the short-term enterprise allowance, while almost 1,000 people are participating in community employment schemes.

There are almost 300 on the rural social scheme and over 100 on Tús, as well as a few availing of the part-time jobs incentive. That brings to almost 4,000 the number of people in Kerry being directly assisted to be participants and activists in the economy of the county. In the context of the entire country falling of a cliff, I put it to the Deputy that that is worth doing.
