I appreciate how difficult delivering on the intent of the amendment would be. If we are not able to bring this further, it will have been interesting to have noted how the brief exchange has illuminated the reality of public opinion. Despite the very strong views of some and the views of everybody else, including me, in the big swathe in the middle who are trying to manage their way through this, there is ultimately a powerful common position, as underscored very effectively by Deputy Doherty. The exchange will have been worthwhile for that alone. It has been illuminating and helpful.
I am very mindful of the challenge involved. I have no other legal resources available to try to advance the proposition. The Minister of State said that, despite his reservations - this may not be the right word - he would not make a distinction between the woman and the providers of an illicit or illegal service.
