Section 114 becomes very serious because section 116 says that if one has taken an oath and then knowingly or recklessly gives evidence which is false or misleading, one can suffer very serious consequences, including the possibility of a fine of €0.5 million and/or five years in prison. There is nothing quaint about that. In that context, Deputy McDonald's point is even more pertinent.
