It is worth putting on the record that none of us wants to be here at a time of economic crisis discussing the introduction of property taxes. It would be much more appropriate to do so in a more economically stable time. How much money was the State able to generate in the previous tax year from the household charge? Have the Revenue Commissioners made any comparison and contrast between it and what will be generated from property taxes?
