The balance is being struck on the backs of customers who have already been penalised for the practices of the banks that were not regulated by the Central Bank, which lent out money. I am aware of loans that were given to people who did not have any hope of ever repaying them in this lifetime or even in their children's lifetime. Joe and Mary Citizen are now paying that bill also, because it has been decided to get this through under section 149. The level of anger and hostility towards the banks cannot be underestimated. What are Mr. Fielding's views on comparisons with other European countries? What are his views on the general increase in handling charges? Have comparisons been made with other European countries, including England, Scotland and Wales?
