The purpose of today's meeting is to consider the motion that the Dáil and Seanad approve the exercise by the State of the option to participate in COM 2012/744, a proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Council Regulation (EC) No. 1346/2000 on insolvency proceedings. Briefings have been circulated. I welcome the Minister for Justice and Equality, Deputy Alan Shatter, and his officials to the meeting. There will be a briefing from the Minister followed by a question and answer session. I invite the Minister to brief the committee on the motion.
