Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform

Freedom of Information (Amendment) Bill 2012: Discussion

1:25 pm

Ms Emily O'Reilly:

We would either amend or overturn the original decision in approximately one quarter of those cases. Sometimes we just amend the decision and release certain records. We agree with the decisions in respect of certain records and overturn those relating to others. On occasion, the decision that was made would be completely overturned. Much of the time we enter into settlements with the bodies involved. This means that without having to go to the formal decision stage, a requester might agree to narrow the scope application regarding the records required or a public body might agree to release those records outside of FOI.
