Public Accounts Committee

Enterprise Ireland - Annual Report and Financial Statement 2011

10:50 am

Mr. Niall O'Donnellan:

What is happening is that there is a proposal to review the issue and to establish what options must be considered from a risk-sharing point of view. In almost every other country against whose companies ours are competing, there is some form of risk sharing scheme which is underwritten by the Government where exporting is taking place to higher risk countries and regions. While some countries represent a higher risk now, in the long run they will offer greater opportunities. That is the case in relation to the BRIC countries. Risk sharing is an important element of a full suite of supports which need to be available to exporting companies. It is an important issue and one of our top priorities in 2013 is to have it addressed.
