Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children
Implementation of Government Decision Following Expert Group Report into Matters Relating to A, B and C v. Ireland
12:30 pm
Ms Caroline Simons:
I wish to answer Deputy Ó Caoláin's question, which represents his wishful thinking based on the idea that I had said the Government should be demolished. I actually said the total body of evidence heard over the past few days has completely demolished any argument that suicidality can only - as with the X case requirement - or ever be treated by abortion. That being the case, we know that women's actual needs when suicidal and pregnant will not be addressed by abortion. Therefore, it would be madness to legislate for it.
