Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform

Role and Functions of NAMA: Discussion

4:20 pm

Mr. Brendan McDonagh:

We ensure that most of the debtors with whom we are working - two thirds of the debtors by number - keep their companies up to date with the Companies Office. We incur necessary expenses to ensure they keep their filings up to date. Sometimes debtors who have not yet been enforced against but who will not co-operate with NAMA allow their companies to be struck off. Where they are struck off, it is necessary to get the company to restate it before one can do anything. This is not a major difficulty but it is quite a time-consuming process. We probably were obliged to work with 50 or 60 companies in the lifetime of NAMA to date to have them relisted with the Companies Office.
