I thank the witnesses for the presentation. One point we have failed to take into account is the fact that credit union membership is part of a common bond and they are very restricted in their membership. I do not think the rules relating to dormant accounts apply in the same way as they do to banks because credit unions are based in the community.

There is a social conscience behind the credit union movement and credit unions make great contributions. One only has to read their annual general meeting booklets to see that they contribute to their community every year. The legislation is probably sufficient. I do not believe it is necessary to change it but we must be mindful of the common bond within which credit unions work. That is relevant to this discussion.
