120. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if the cost-benefit analysis criteria set down by the OPW will be permitted to take loss of income, workable land, payments to farmers and the environment into account when assessing the need for flood relief works in the Lough Funshinagh area of south County Roscommon; and if he will make a statement on the matter. 121. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if he will instruct the OPW to find a permanent solution to the flooding issues in the Lough Funshinagh area of south County Roscommon in view of the fact that the stringent cost-benefit analysis criteria set down by the OPW has now prevented Roscommon County Council from taking further action; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 120 and 121 together.

I am advised by my Office that funding was approved in 2018 to Roscommon County Council under the OPW Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme for a study at this location.

The report prepared by Malachy Walsh & Partners on the flooding of Lough Funshinagh, has been submitted to my officials this week. Following consideration of this report, further contact will be made with Roscommon County Council to establish whether or not there is a viable, cost beneficial and environmentally acceptable measure to provide appropriate protection to properties in the area.
