383. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he has issued any directives or guidelines on the luminescence of street lighting to local authorities including Dublin City Council and Fingal County Council; if he has carried out any road safety audits on street and road public lighting; and if he will make a statement on the matter. 384. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he is aware from road safety or other audits if the luminescence of street lighting in any local authority, including Dublin City and Fingal County has been reduced in brightness on cost grounds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 383 and 384 together.

As road authorities, it is a matter for local authorities, in conjunction with TII in respect of national roads, to manage the maintenance of roads within their functional areas.  Within their roads budget, it is also a matter for local authorities to prioritise maintenance works which have safety implications.

The Department has not issued directives or guidelines in respect of the luminance of street lighting.

385. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will ensure, and on road safety grounds, provide funding so that road markings on key urban, regional, national and motorway routes are luminescent, given the tendency of the existing painted markings to disappear during bad weather at night; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
