To ask the Minister for Finance the total number of requests the board of AIB made for former directors to surrender part of their pension voluntarily; the total number of replies received; the total values of pensions voluntarily foregone by former directors of AIB; if he expects any further developments in respect of pensions paid to former AIB directors; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I have been informed by AIB that, as previously indicated, the bank has written to former senior executives requesting a voluntary reduction in their pension levels. In excess of 30 letters have been issued to date. As AIB indicated when before the Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform quite a few responses have been received and the process remains ongoing. It should be noted that for reasons of confidentiality AIB cannot disclose information in respect of individuals or the levels of reductions agreed.
