The report of the National Substance Misuse Strategy Steering Group in relation to alcohol was only recently launched and is encouraging public debate. I envisage an Action Plan being developed in advance of proposals being drafted for Government later in the year. This shall take into account - among other things - that the strategy should be taken in conjunction with the National Drugs Strategy 2009 - 2016 as the overall National Substance Misuse Strategy until the end of 2016.
