The Government is committed to protecting the vulnerable throughout the course of the difficult fiscal adjustment process that is currently underway. There is absolutely no question of an agenda, covert or otherwise, to cut ten per cent or any other percentage of welfare payments that are being made to genuine claimants. In fact, protecting the vulnerable by securing the long-term financial viability of the social protection system is one of the main benefits the Government is seeking from the restoration of equilibrium to the Government's finances.
