Question 803: To ask the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs if she will report on the progress of the delegation who travelled from Ireland to Russia in December with the task of examining the way inter-country adoptions could resume between the two States. [1263/12]

A delegation comprised of representatives of the Adoption Authority and officials from my Department held exploratory meetings with the Russian authorities in December. The delegation visited Russia in relation to preliminary discussions around the potential for a bilateral on intercountry adoption. This was a follow up to previous discussions which took place earlier in the year, on the initiative of the Russian authorities.

I understand that the AAI are currently preparing a report for me on its assessment of the situation. My officials are also preparing their report on the meeting held and next steps.
