Question 396: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government if he will consider the possibility of allowing persons who are at risk of losing their homes or who have lost their homes due to the current economic downturn to be considered for local authority housing and to be allowed to be placed on local authority housing lists; and if he will make a statement on the matter. New regulations and guidance have been developed by my Department in the context of the social housing reform programme to provide that housing authorities can disregard a household's current accommodation for the purposes of determining eligibility for social housing support where that household's current accommodation has been deemed unsustainable for economic reasons. Local authorities have been provided with clear guidance on the treatment of applicants for social housing support in such circumstances.
