Question 1020: To ask the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources when the hardship fund for former drift net fishermen will be established and operational; if primary legislation or regulations will be required for the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Details of the hardship fund are being finalised at present and will be widely advertised in the national press in the near future. The fund will be managed on an administrative basis by BIM and the Regional Fisheries Boards and therefore no legislation is required.
